When should I change the filters near my water softener and what filters do I need?

For softener filters on well water, we suggest you change them every three to six months. If you notice low water pressure the filter probably needs to be changed more often. Consult page 13 of your owner’s manual for filter change instructions or check out our video here. If you’re unsure of the type of filter you need, check your softener maintenance sticker on your brine drum or contact us!   We have all filters available in office for pick up, shipping, or we can book a call to change it for you. While out there, our technicians will test

How do I know my water is soft?

You should have a good lather in the shower and a soft, slick feeling on your skin after rinsing away soap. If ever in doubt, we offer free water testing in our office in Burnsville. Simply bring in at least two marked samples from your hot and cold water. Run the water a minute between temperatures before collecting your samples.

How long should my softener be in regeneration?

Depending on the size and number of units you have in your treatment system, regeneration could take from 10 minutes to over an hour. If your system seems to be running longer than it should, set a timer and come back to check on it. If the water is still running after an hour, bypass your system and give us a call, or send a text or email.

What should I do if I have elevated arsenic levels in my drinking water?

Arsenic is a notoriously poisonous metalloid with many allotropic forms. Arsenic is found naturally in the ground, as well as in pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, and various alloys. If you are concerned, or have been notified, that your water may contain elevated arsenic levels, then you should probably have your water tested. The EPA maximum health standard for arsenic is 10 micrograms per liter. There are several methods of reducing arsenic. Some will reduce for the whole house, and some for a single tap, for example, a tap at the kitchen sink. You may choose to buy and install treatment equipment

Why does my water smell intermittently?

Smells at specific faucets might indicate a problem in the line, such as trapped air causing a sulfur odor. This can sometimes be resolved by checking for kinks or  extra line length that may be trapping air. Noticing the smell at multiple faucets may indicate another issue going on. Inspect your water line or contact us to diagnose and address the root cause of intermittent smells.

Do I need a whole-house filter if I already have a water softener?

A water softener is designed to reduce hardness minerals such as calcium and magnesium, but it is not intended to address other potential contaminants such as chlorine, iron, sulfur or sediment. A whole-house filter can be selected to target specific water quality concerns based on your water test results — whether you want to improve taste and odor, address aesthetic issues, or reduce certain substances for peace of mind. The best way to decide is to have your water tested and review the results with one of our Water Treatment Specialists to choose a solution that fits your comfort level

What is nitrate?

Nitrate is a form of nitrogen naturally found in soil and groundwater. Fertilizers, manure, and sewage can elevate nitrate levels, especially in rural areas or private wells. High nitrate levels can be harmful, as they interfere with red blood cells’ ability to carry oxygen. Infants are particularly at risk, potentially developing “blue baby syndrome,” a rare but serious condition. The EPA’s maximum level for nitrate in drinking water is 10 mg/l. Regular testing is essential to ensure safety. Have your well water tested for nitrate—our professionals can assist with testing and recommend certified systems to reduce nitrate levels.
